This shot was inspired by the old-timey feel of Grandpa's workshop. Equal parts nostalgia and warmth, the viewer is invited in to watch the master craftsman at work.
The real star of this shot is the vintage workbench, which I've been told has been around for about 70 years, and I'm certain it would sell for thousands of dollars to any Restoration Hardware fancier. The props are all part of the company's line of products. I wanted to capture the warm feel of film, even though I shot it on digital. The light is a standard studio setup, arranged to simulate ambient light from a window. The only unfortante part of the image is that the color of the body of the production version of the machine changed to bright red at publication time, and resulted in having to retouch the image to reflect that change.
